Angels on Assignment

Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. (Matthew 18:10-14)

Did you notice a phrase in Matthew 18:10-14 that says, “their angels”? Let’s consider what Jesus meant by that. God assigns an angel to every child. You got an angel when you were born, too. Scripture often mentions angels on assignment to do a specific task or face a daunting challenge, but angels aren’t just for situations of biblical magnitude.

You’ve got an angel watching over you all the time, but you must cooperate with them. For example, angels will never lead you into sin; so if you are in sin, you’re not under angelic protection. You also need to speak God’s Word, because that puts the angels in motion. Just because you don’t see them doesn’t mean they’re not around you. You’ve got angelic help, and so does every little child.

A few verses earlier in the same Gospel, Jesus said that if anyone attacks or harms a child, their punishment from God would be so severe it would better for them to be drowned in the depths of the sea with a millstone tied around his neck. Do you remember the song, “Jesus loves the little children”? Although the tune may seem juvenile or simple, the revelation of that simple song is very true. God will protect, champion, and support children because they are innocent and sensitive to Him. You do not want to get between a child and their angel on assignment.

Practical Application

Be a part of God’s plan in protecting children. Work with the angels, not against them.
