DAILY DEVOTIONS

For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. (Romans 10:12)

What a life-changing revelation Paul shared in his epistles to the first century church. To those of us who have been raised in church, this may not mean much, but to the Roman Christians reading this letter in a synagogue, Paul’s statement in Romans 10:12 was revolutionary!

It doesn’t matter where you are from or what your background is, God will meet you there and transform you into a new creature if you allow Him to. Paul explained God is rich to everyone who will call on His name.

Even in corners of the world where the Christian faith is met with danger, a powerful revival is sweeping. It’ even happening in Muslim countries! Jesus is appearing to Muslims in dreams and visions and showing them who He is. They are responding to Him, realizing there's only one name above all names, and it's Jesus. He's the Ultimate Authority!

That’s true for the lives of Muslims, tribal, and aboriginal people all over the world and it’s true for your life as well.

The reason why you came to faith is that someone released the Word into your life. They spoke and declared, and you heard it and chose to respond to what God had revealed. When you hear revelation, the next step is to speak it out of your mouth. God uses His sword, the Word of God, to dismantle anything that tries to stand in the way of His will being accomplished in and through you.

Do you remember when God spoke the impossible to Abram—that he would be the father of many nations? Abram’s and Sarai’s bodies were past the age of having children, so Abraham had to use his words of faith to see the power of God released. He said, “It doesn’t matter if I’m 99. If God said it, I can produce. And not just a little bit. I’m the father of many many nations.” He called on the name of the Lord and rejoiced that what He promised, He would do!

Practical Application

What impossible thing needs to happen in your life? It doesn’t matter where you come from or what your background is. Decide that you will only speak what God says. Call on His name; speak His Word and see extraordinary results.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17)

Have you ever heard the saying, "You are what you eat"? Well, in the realm of faith, it's more like, "You are what you speak.” Your heart and mouth work together in a cycle. What you say influences what's in your heart, and what's in your heart comes right out of your mouth. Now, that can be a good thing–or a dangerous one.

Fear, for instance, can cause us to get in an unhealthy spiral of despair. It sneaks into our heart, and suddenly, our words are soaked in it. Ever notice how when you focus on your worries, they seem to multiply? That's your mouth at work. But here's the secret: it works both ways. Just as you can fill your heart with fear through your words, you can also fill it with faith.

Remember what Jesus said in Matthew 12? "Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks." That means your heart's content shapes your words. That’s one reason the enemy loves media so much. He pollutes television, radio, and the internet so that your heart’s content will be contaminated, and it kills your faith because you release your words on the wrong things.

Think of your mouth as a powerful weapon. It's like a sword, ready to cut through challenges or a sharp knife that you turn and cut yourself with. We need to realize the best weapon of choice for us is the Word of God. When you speak God's promises over your situations, you're deploying your faith and cutting down mountains to nothing. Now, when that mountain seems too tall, don't turn your sword on yourself. Instead, wield it against the problem. Believe in your heart, speak with authority, and watch transformation happen. You have what you say. Watch your mouth and what comes out of it.

Practical Application

Write a declaration of faith and speak it over yourself every day. Know what the Word says about who you are and what you can have. Then speak it over yourself by faith. You are what you speak. Your mouth will affect your heart and your heart will affect your mouth.

Matthew 12:34; Mark 11:23

But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:8-10)

Romans 10:8-10 contains three powerful Greek words that bring us even greater revelation of this well-known portion of Scripture. The Greek word for word is rhema, which is defined as the spoken Word. The phrase is nigh thee in Greek is eggus. Eggus means ready. The word mouth in Greek is stoma and means the front edge of a weapon. Let’s put that altogether in the verse.

The spoken Word of God is already ready and it’s in your mouth, set to be a weapon that cuts off anything that is in front of you. In fact, that’s exactly what happened when you got saved. God delivered you from yourself by changing what could come out of your mouth.

When He brought you the Word, He also gave you the power of confession that can bring salvation. Saved is the Greek word sozo; it means more than going to heaven when you die. Sozo means that God is bringing deliverance to every part of your life. Salvation means prosperity. Salvation means healing. Salvation means deliverance from anything that the enemy is trying to attack you with. When you don’t know what to say and you can’t figure out what to confess, speak out loud, “Jesus is Lord.” The word Lord in the Greek is Kurios and means highest authority of all.

Whose authority are you defining your life by? When you complain about the problems, issues and the enemy coming against you, you have already decided that he is the Kurios and the highest authority of what will happen to you. When you refuse to speak negative thoughts and only speak the Word, you are applying the power of God in your life. Use the Word to attack the enemy!

Practical Application

What words come out of your mouth when you are stressing or worrying? You need to create a set of words and phrases that agree with what God’s Word says when you are tempted to say what you feel. Watch your words.

Deuteronomy 30:14; Hebrews 11:34
