A Spiritual Inheritance

A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. (Proverbs 13:22)

What is an inheritance? Is it simply money you leave for your family when you die? Is it land or businesses that you bequeath to people on your passing? Or could an inheritance be much more than that? We are called to leave not only a financial inheritance for our children and grandchildren but also a spiritual one. It is crucial we pass on the values and principles that guide our lives.

Today, it is more important than ever to leave a strong spiritual heritage for our children and grandchildren. The world is transforming, and the church should stand for its values and principles according to the Word of God. It is not enough to simply shake our heads and point our fingers at the state of the world. As the light and salt of the earth, it is our responsibility to speak out against the forces of evil and to guide the next generation in the ways of God.

In many countries, it is illegal to teach certain biblical principles and doing so can cause you to lose your job, or even be arrested for your stance. However, no matter what the consequences, we must not be afraid to speak the truth, even if it is uncomfortable, unpopular or dangerous! Christian adults should get involved in the education of our children to protect them from harmful and dangerous ideologies now being promoted in many school districts. As parents, it is our responsibility to be aware of what our children are learning in school and to take an active role in their education. Don’t be afraid to speak out against teachings that go against biblical values and seek alternative educational options if that’s what it takes to protect your children!

Practical Application

If we want our children and grandchildren to have strong spiritual foundations, we must first have strong spiritual foundations ourselves. We must be diligent in how we conduct ourselves and the words with which we speak and strive to live lives that honor God first and foremost.

Jeremiah 18:8, Luke 24:47
