And these are the days of the years of Abraham's life which he lived, an hundred threescore and fifteen years. Then Abraham gave up the ghost, and died in a good old age, an old man, and full of years; and was gathered to his people. (Genesis 25:7-8)
Those who believe that the maximum number of years promised to us is only 120 should consider the life of Abraham, who lived well beyond that age. Abraham lived to 175, and remember, that was after the flood. That means 120 is not a cap for our years on earth.
Abraham’s story also reminds us that life is more than how many years we rack up. It’s about the legacy we leave behind. He faced many trials, from leaving his homeland to trusting God with his son Isaac. Each step of his journey was marked by faith. Note how Genesis 25:7-8 describes the end of Abraham’s life journey. He was full of years. This means that his experiences, adventures, and journey through life left him full. That’s what God wants for all of His children: a full life.
It’s essential to see how Abraham died as well. It did not say that Abraham got sick or weak or was killed in some fashion. It says that once he felt like his life was full, he gave up the ghost. In other words, he decided it was time to die. You don’t need to get sick or weak or be defeated in some way to leave this earth. You should be able to live a full life and die at a good old age, in faith, like Abraham.
Practical Application
Abraham held onto God’s promises till the end of his life, and so can we. Knowing the promises of God is what gives us strength to carry on when we face difficulties and issues. Take time today to think about all God's promises to you.
