Be Ready

But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. (Matthew 24:43-44)

Interestingly, Jesus used a thief to describe His return.

What if, as protector of your house and your items, you knew exactly when a thief would come and rob your home? If you knew the hour, the method, how he would enter, and everything, would you do your due diligence to be prepared for when he showed up?

The problem is that it would never happen. Thieves don’t announce when they will suddenly come upon a place. So, what does a wise person do? They live in a way that is always watchful and ready for what might happen.

Jesus said that we need to stay ready for His return with the same vigilance and passion. No one knows the day or the hour that Jesus will return, but we do know the season is coming soon.

It’s easy to get complacent about the things of God, especially for those raised around church. We must not only make it a point to be active and involved ourselves, but also to encourage those around us to be active in doing the work of the Lord.

Don’t get caught off guard by focusing on the things of this world and not giving your attention to Kingdom business.

Practical Application

Being ready means constantly thinking about and paying attention to what the Spirit says. A ready person cares about living in a way that prioritizes God over everything else. Vigilance isn’t a momentary focus; it’s a lifestyle of being sensitive to God.

Luke 12:39; 2 Peter 3:10
