Chosen and Adopted

Writer: Bishop Keith ButlerBishop Keith Butler

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. (Ephesians 1:1-6)

It was not an accident that you have a relationship with God. God desired a relationship with you. From the beginning, He intended for you to be part of His heavenly family, even though we weren’t always that way. As part of the wild root, or individuals not originally from Jewish heritage, God chose us to be adopted and grafted into the tree of Israel. This is significant because, in Biblical times, adoption meant that the adopted person had full legal rights and inheritance.

What do we inherit? Paul explained that God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places. The term in heavenly places doesn’t indicate where our blessings await us but where they originate. You possess blessings in the heavenly realm right now that manifest in our natural realm when you operate in your authority. The natural realm is a poor substitute for the realm of the Spirit. Everything you see, feel, and touch originates first from the supernatural world. This means that whatever you need here on earth can be accessed through your authority in the supernatural realm.

Practical Application

Reject the lie that the natural world and its limitations hold you back. The Spirit realm is the source of your authority, so pray, speak, and act in harmony with heaven, declaring God’s supernatural favor in every area of your life.

Ephesians 2:10; 2 Timothy 1:9
