Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances, (Touch not; taste not; handle not; Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men? (Colossians 2:20-22)
If you are truly dead to the things of this world, you are also dead to reacting to the attacks of the world. That doesn’t mean we don’t protect ourselves or that we do not feel the sting of an attack, but as new creatures, we don’t allow our emotions or our actions to be affected by the sins of another person. Cuss at me; even talk about my mama, but the dead man will not rise back up because I’m not moved by what the world may do or say.
A dead man is dead. We must not be moved by the sins or prodding of others. No matter what they say, no matter how they act, the bottom line is that I am not called to react to them. I’m called to respond to what the Father says.
Many Christians need to work on their anger and offense response. I have met so many believers that are quick to judge, quick to take offense and quick to jump to wrath the moment that something doesn’t sit right with their flesh.
Those who are truly Spirit-led Christians will be led by the Spirit in how they act and react and not be moved according to the flesh, traditions, or doctrines of men.
Practical Application
How are you when it comes to anger? Are you quick to fly off the handle when people are rude, arrogant, or imbecilic? It is important for us, as believers, to develop the fruit of being led by the Spirit. When your fleshly anger arises, remind yourself of who you are in Christ.
