For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:3-5)
In 2 Corinthians 10:3-5, Paul acknowledged that we live in a human body, our earth suit. It is tempting to think of the natural as the “most true” aspect of our lives, but it isn’t. The natural was born from the supernatural, and there has been a war waging for thousands of years in the supernatural realm. Your fight isn’t with difficult co-workers or problematic personalities. Your battle is waged against demonic forces of darkness that are behind the scenes trying to come against the will of God.
The good news is that God didn’t leave you in this battle empty-handed. He has given you spiritual weapons of mass destruction against the enemy. The weapons of our warfare can obliterate strongholds: the deeply entrenched beliefs, habits, and thought patterns that oppose God's truth.
Paul wrote that we need to think right, but we also need to cast down (literally throw down violently) the thoughts that try to exalt themselves against the knowledge of God. What are these thoughts? Any thoughts that respond to the Word of God by thinking, “This is true in most circumstances, but in this particular one I am in, it’s greater than God’s truth.”
Complete victory against every purpose of the enemy happens when we capture those thoughts, cast them down, and filter every thought through the idea of “What does God’s Word say?”.
Practical Application
Your words are essential in controlling your thoughts. What we speak influences what we believe and how we act. Decide to only speak life and truth in your world and over your own life.
