Don’t Suppress the Truth

For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith. For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness. (Romans 1:16-18)

What is truth? That’s a heavy question today, but it’s not difficult for people of faith. God tells us that His Word is truth. (John 17:17) So many people seek their version of truth. Paul wrote to the Romans, warning them of this issue. He wrote that the wrath of God would be against those who hold the truth in unrighteousness. The word hold in Greek is to suppress.

In other words, these people know the truth but choose to hide it or reject it. The media, educational systems, and various institutions often suppress the truth of God because they want to promote their own philosophies or agendas. The anger of God is reserved for those who decide that there is something higher than God and God’s way.

Paul cautioned believers against being swayed by specific individuals. He stated that he was not ashamed of the message of the Gospel, emphasizing that it is the power of God for salvation. The term salvation is soteria in Greek, which conveys the ideas of rescue, safety, deliverance, and health. Paul emphasized that this power is accessible to everyone who believes, not just the spiritual elite.

Don’t hold back speaking the Word and don’t suppress the truth. You have been given the Word for your soteria and the soteria of those around you. Speak the Word and speak life.

Practical Application

Do not be ashamed of the Gospel of Christ. It is the power of God for your salvation, deliverance, and health. When you can declare God’s Word, don’t give into the shame others try to put on you or the pressure to hold it back. Speak it and expect the Word to change situations.

Ephesians 5:6; Colossians 3:6
