Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. (Matthew 13:9)
It seems almost redundant to say this phrase from Matthew 13:9. After all, isn’t hearing what ears are for?
Jesus was teaching us that just because you have something that God intended for a certain purpose, you could misuse it, or ignore it! I could have a brick made of solid gold, and I could use it as a precious and expensive doorstop my whole life. Although I might own several pounds of gold, it would not be fulfilling its purpose or potential if it remains a doorstop.
The main reason you have ears is to hear the Word of the Lord. Many people don’t really pay attention to what God is saying. They allow the Words of the Lord to go across their ear drums but never hearken to what God had said.
Before I minister, I have people say, "This is my Bible. The Bible is God speaking to me. The Bible is the truth. It reveals what I should think. It tells me what I should believe. It tells me how I should walk. The Word of God is the most important thing in life.”
God’s Word and the opportunity to hear God’s Word should be the most highly valued thing in your life. That’s why churches that preach and teach God’s Word are essential! You have ears; let them hear and pay attention to God’s Word! Honor and esteem it. Hear God’s Word; receive it and do it!
Practical Application
- Prioritize hearing God’s Word on Sundays and throughout the week. Listen to the Word on apps, podcasts or social media from your pastor or a solid Bible teacher and watch yourself grow!
