Even Your Enemy Will See

Writer's picture: Bishop Keith ButlerBishop Keith Butler

Egypt was glad when they departed: for the fear of them fell upon them. He spread a cloud for a covering; and fire to give light in the night. The people asked, and he brought quails, and satisfied them with the bread of heaven. He opened the rock, and the waters gushed out; they ran in the dry places like a river. (Psalm 105:38-41)

Even your enemies are afraid to touch you when God's hand is upon you.

Psalm 105 reveals that Egypt, Israel’s great oppressor, wanted them gone. They witnessed God’s hand shielding Israel through plagues and judgments. They understood that regardless of their attempts against God’s people, they could not stop what God was accomplishing through them. God desires to bless your life so immensely that even your enemies acknowledge it. They may resist or fight initially (as Egypt did), but ultimately, they will have no choice but to recognize God’s hand upon your life.

God will never leave you vulnerable. Consider what God did after delivering His people. First, He provided them with a cloud to follow during the day. Imagine the blessing of having a cloud that protects you from the scorching desert sun. This alone was God’s provision while He guided them.

Second, He offered them a fire to follow by night. Many are unaware that people frequently succumb to hypothermia in the desert due to the sudden temperature drop from hot to cold. God safeguarded them from the harsh cold with a fire each night. God never left them defenseless. Israel may have been shielded from their enemies and the harsh elements, but what about nourishment? They found themselves in a wilderness where food was scarce and difficult to obtain. Yet, in His love and provision, God provided them with meat, bread, and water miraculously. Even in a dry land, God caused rivers to flow. God intends to protect His people with abundant provision.

In the story of Israel’s deliverance and wandering, we learn that God consistently led, sheltered, and sustained them throughout every step of their journey.

Practical Application

When God gives you direction, obey Him without delay. When you follow His guidance, even your enemies will witness God’s favor in your life. He is faithful in providing what He has promised.
