Finding Grace

And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart. And the Lord said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. (Genesis 6:5-8)

Can you imagine living in the age of Noah? Sometimes, we think that our world is terrible, but not to the extent that the world of Noah is depicted. Scripture tells us that man's wickedness was so great that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was continually evil. What a dark world!

God was so grieved to see mankind living this way that He regretted creating man. However, amid this chaos and death, one man pursued and followed God: Noah.

The Bible says that Noah found grace with God. When you hear the word grace, don’t think about God forgiving Noah’s wrongs (that’s mercy). Grace is divine empowerment from God to be able to do anything needed to fulfill His will. Consider all Noah would have had to do to accomplish this seemingly impossible task.

Noah had to build a giant boat with only his sons’ help. He had to gather all kinds of animals and survive on the sea in a locked boat with family and animals everywhere. His family was responsible for repopulating and reestablishing the whole world’s system. How did he have the strength, the wisdom, and the ability to do all these tasks? Noah found grace. God gave His supernatural power and ability to accomplish the task because Noah was focused on the Lord.

Practical Application

Thank God for His grace today. Look back and realize times when God has shown you supernatural favor, uncommon strength, or empowerment to do something. Remember that His grace saw you through and always will.

Matthew 15:19: Proverbs 6:18
