Increase of Knowledge

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever. But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased. (Daniel 12:3-4)

Daniel prophesied about two things happening in the Last Days: one concerning the wise and another concerning knowledge.

First, the wise would shine and turn others toward righteousness. The Hebrew word used for wise is sakal and it means those who preach, those who teach, those who provide service, and those who fund. The last days will be full of wise believers who use the resources God has given them to increase His wisdom all over the world.

The second thing Daniel prophesied was that knowledge would increase. Note that knowledge does not make one wise. Proverbs tells us that wisdom comes from God Himself. Knowledge can be gained by anyone willing to do the research, practice the application, and use the tools given to them. It should be abundantly evident to anyone that knowledge itself is increasing at an exponential rate today. The technology we have at our fingertips today we didn’t have to the same extent five years ago. Our ability to connect globally, conduct meetings virtually, and travel across the country in just a few hours demonstrates the fulfillment of this prophecy.

Technology and knowledge are not evil if they are used for righteous purposes. Trust God with the wisdom to apply the increase of knowledge in our world in ways that promote the kingdom above all else.

Practical Application

Although knowledge is admirable, we must pursue wisdom and righteousness. Find out how God wants you to use the knowledge and the resources that have been placed in your hand.

Daniel 12:9; Isaiah 11:9
