Jesus the Judge

For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him. (John 5:22-23)

When you reach heaven, and your deeds are judged before the Father, Jesus will be the One who decides whether the judgment will be placed against you or not. The One who took our sins upon Himself on the cross will be the one who stands as the Judge of our lives.

Why did God put that upon Jesus? The honor we give Jesus is directly connected to the honor we give the Father. Jesus is much more than a great teacher, a prophet, or a “good man.” He is the Son of God, eternally equal to the Father and Holy Spirit. So, to honor Jesus is to honor the Father.

There will be a day, appointed by God, when judgment will happen. How we honored, accepted, and lived for Jesus will be brought up, and Jesus will either say, “Well done, good and faithful servant,” or “I never knew you.”

What you will hear on the other side of eternity is not about the good things you have done but who you decided to trust and how you served Him.

Practical Application

Understanding that Jesus is our Judge should also remind us of the importance of giving Him access to every aspect of our lives. Allowing His Word to dictate how we live, the choices we make, and the direction we are going is vital. Today and every day, make big and small decisions before God and ask what He would want you to do and what His Word says.
