And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. (Luke 4:3-4)
When the enemy attacked Jesus, he first went after His identity. He wanted Jesus to question who He was so He would do what the devil asked of Him.
The devil tried to instill fear in Jesus so He would try to prove who He was.
If the enemy can get you to question your identity, he can get you to forget your assignment.
Jesus not only understood who He was, but He also knew what He was called to do. Because of this, no attack of the enemy could cause Him to falter or fail.
He simply responded to the devil, “It is written.” The biggest failure in the body of Christ is a lack of understanding assignment. Too often, Christians try to find their own path based on their talents, their passions, or opportunities provided for them. They lean on their own understanding, and don’t seek the Lord.
When you know who you are and you know your assignment, the enemy could hit you with fire and you would walk right through it. He could come against you with a flood and you would just walk on the water. He could attack you with many things and it wouldn’t bother you because you know who you are and what you are called to do.
Practical Application
- Have you asked God about your current assignment? What are you called to do right now? God has a purpose and a plan for your life, and He doesn’t want to keep it a secret. He wants to share it with you. Seek God and clearly understand your current assignment.
