Ministry of Reconciliation

Writer's picture: Bishop Keith ButlerBishop Keith Butler

And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation. To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. (2 Corinthians 5: 18-19)

You are a minister. That doesn’t mean that you have a five-fold, full-time calling of being in a pulpit on a stage and preaching to crowds, but it does mean that you should preach.

Minister simply means servant. Regardless of what you do for a living, it doesn’t change the fact that you are also a minister. You are called to serve others and give them the Good News.

We don’t have to figure out what to tell people. The Bible gives us the message we are all called to preach; it is the Word of reconciliation.

Reconciliation means a restoration of relationship. There was once a time that you were far from God. A divide between God and man made any real relationship impossible. Then Jesus came. He gave His life and gave us everlasting life. Jesus’ sacrifice made the way for us to be restored to sonship and fellowship with God. This is the message of reconciliation that God wants us to minister to the world.

Many people feel far from God, but our job, as ministers of reconciliation, is to tell them that Jesus came so they could be close to God. God sent His Son, Jesus, to die on the cross because He desired a relationship with each of us, and now, because of Jesus Christ, we can walk in the fullness of that relationship with Him.

Practical Application – Ask God who you are called to minister to today. God will put someone on your heart that you should talk to and tell the Good News of reconciliation.
