Promises of Longevity

And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto the mountain of Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And the Lord shewed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, And all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim, and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the utmost sea, And the south, and the plain of the valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, unto Zoar. And the Lord said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither. So Moses the servant of the Lord died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord. And he buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, over against Bethpeor: but no man knoweth of his sepulchre unto this day. And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated. (Deuteronomy 34:1-7)

At 120 years old, Moses was described as not losing his sight, strength, or vitality. I believe that Moses was a very young-looking 120-year-old. This man was as strong at 120 as he was at 30. Scripture is clear that aging does not mean decline. Just because you are getting older doesn’t mean you need to start falling apart. That’s the world’s way and system, but not God’s. God desires to satisfy His children with long life.

There is no cap to how old you want to live; living to a ripe old age doesn’t mean you’re barely hanging on. God wants you and me to live in a way that strengthens and empowers us and allows us to do great things for the kingdom until we go to heaven whenever we are ready. Age is not a limitation or a detriment; it is meant to be an opportunity for continued growth and contribution to the world.

Practical Application

Consider this today: How long do you want to live? Seriously, think about it and believe in it. Shift your perspective on aging. Instead of viewing getting older as a decline, see it as a new chapter filled with opportunities for growth, learning, and sharing the wisdom God has given you.
