Responsibility and Productivity

Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents. For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath. And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. (Matthew 25:28-30)

Matthew 25:28-30 outlines some laws in God’s kingdom governing prosperity.

Jesus told the story of a master, or business owner, who gave three of his employees talents and monitored what they did with what they were given.

One employee had terrific results and had a great return on his investment and grew even richer; one had mediocre results and had a decent return on the investment that he made, and one had no results at all, although he started with the same amount as the others. In the world we are living in, many will say that the “compassionate” thing would have been to give some money that the wealthy, prosperous, and productive servant earned to the one who had nothing to gain. But that’s not how God’s kingdom operates.

God expects productivity from His followers. He expects us to use the gifts, talents, time, and treasure we have been given. There is something for you to do every single day with what God gave you; don’t take it for granted.

It is also true that there are real consequences to unproductivity for those who say they are following God. Don’t make light of the Scripture saying this one is cast into outer darkness. You do not want to be found unproductive with the gifts that God has given you.

Practical Application

What are the talents that God has given you? How can you use them for kingdom purposes? Look at your schedule and see what time God has given you this week. How can you use it for kingdom purposes? We must focus on being faithful stewards and find opportunities to grow what God has put our hand to do.
