Seek God’s Thoughts

O Lord, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep. (Psalm 92:5)

The Psalmist wrote in Psalm 92 about God’s magnificent works and the unfathomable depth of His thoughts. God is full of wisdom, and His plans often go beyond our ability to understand them entirely. My thoughts and your thoughts will not always come to the best conclusion or provide the best direction. When a thought comes to you, the most crucial first step is to identify where your thought came from.  Is that thought from God, our emotions or ideas, or the enemy?

How can we know the source of thoughts? God’s thoughts align with His Word and bring peace, wisdom, and clarity. Thoughts from the enemy will bring confusion, fear, and doubt.

When you recognize that a thought comes into your mind that doesn’t align with God’s truth, immediately speak against it. Declare God’s Word over your mind and reject lies from the enemy.

Success for any Christian will be linked to their ability to speak to their thoughts. Just like Jesus spoke to the fig tree and it withered, we can speak to our thoughts and either cause them to be solidified or wither away and die. When a negative, depressive, or any form of harmful or problematic thought shows up in your mind, you must command it to leave in the name of Jesus. The enemy may try to bring those thoughts back later, but you must stand firmly speaking His Word.

You are not left with only your thoughts. Believers have the mind of Christ. God’s thoughts are more profound than ours, and His wisdom is beyond anything. When faced with decisions or challenges, we must desire and pursue His guidance over any advice that we get or ideas we may have.

Practical Application

The Psalmist thought about God’s thoughts by looking at God’s wonderful works. Take time to think about God’s wondrous works today. Consider the beauty of nature, the amazing aspects of the human body, or the miracles you have seen God do in your own life. Trust that the same wise King who made all those has a plan for you, too.
