The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. (Proverbs 10:22)
God always speaks, but we don’t always listen. Sometimes, we seek God for a fresh Word that He has already given us. Many people know this verse, Proverbs 10:22.
They may have memorized it but haven’t fully experienced its operation in their lives. When we become very familiar with the things of God, we often miss the “now” revelation He wishes to give. The Word is alive and active, meaning you can read a verse you have known for years and still discover something new from it. So, what is God saying to you today through this verse? God wants to bless your life. The Hebrew word for blessing is braka', which means prosperous. The Hebrew word for rich is asar', meaning to grow and accumulate.
We have all seen people who have become wealthy. However, unlike worldly wealth, God’s blessings come without sorrow. The world believes that more money brings more problems, but God’s way brings more blessings and no sorrows. I would much rather have that. The Jewish Study Bible translates this Scripture as: “It is the blessing of the Lord that enriches, and no toil can increase it.” No human effort can match or replace what happens when God decides to bless you. God’s blessing is designed to increase in our lives beyond human ability and without the sorrows and pain of the world. When God releases His favor on your life, nothing can stop it.
Practical Application
God plans to bless you beyond what you could accomplish on your own, without the sorrow that the world experiences while accumulating wealth. It’s important to recognize the source of your provision. If we fail to acknowledge that it comes from the Lord, we may end up valuing our jobs over the things of God. Thank God for His provision whenever you witness growth and remind yourself that His blessings make you truly rich.
