The Power of Corporate Praise

And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said unto them. And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is: Who by the mouth of thy servant David hast said, Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? (Acts 4:23-25)

After being threatened by the Sanhedrin Council, the believers did not retreat in fear. Instead, they gathered and began praising the Lord. Praise is an answer to whatever problem is coming against you. One of the most powerful things a group of believers can do is gather for prayer and praise in times of pressure.

What song did they use to praise the Lord? They used Psalm 2, which acknowledges that God created everything with His power and that anyone or anything that opposes God’s plan will ultimately fail.

Some of the best praise and worship songs incorporate the Word of God. When we face challenges, singing or declaring Scripture empowers us with the truth and strength we need to stand firm in our faith.

The early church’s response to threats is a powerful example for us today. Nowhere does God promise us that there will not be challenges and opposition. Instead, He promises that we are already more than conquerors despite the danger.

Practical Application

When you find yourself in a pressured situation, you need to decide to get to church. There, you can pray and praise with fellow believers and declare what the Word says about your situation. Don’t wallow in the moment; get up and praise God with someone.
